Pennsville crossing guard charged with aggravated assault.
PENNSVILLE TWP. -- A Pennsville Township crossing guard was arrested after she allegedly sprayed mace in a man's face, authorities said.
Pennsville Police responded at roughly 8 a.m. to Route 49 and First Street after a man called complaining that he was sprayed in the face with mace.
The victim was walking down the street when a vehicle pulled up next to him and the driver, who was later identified as Amy L. Stanley, of Pennsville, asked him for his name.
Stanley then allegedly sprayed him in the face with mace and fled the scene, according to police.
Police tracked down Stanley, who was a Pennsville crossing guard. She was located standing at her crossing guard post near Penn Beach.
Authorities did not say why Stanley maced the man.
Stanley was charged with aggravated assault and suspended without pay, pending job termination, authorities said.
After processing, Stanley was released pending court.
Crossing guards are not employed by the district but by the township.
Pennsville School District officials did not have any comment on the incident.
