"A few weeks back, I got a scare when my heart was racing out of control.
"You see, I've been blessed to never have any heart issues (although my mother has them). My blood pressure has always been outstanding.
"So a few weeks back, when I woke up at 3 a.m. and felt the bathroom start to spin on me and my heart going crazy I thought I was having a heart attack.
"I woke my wife up and told her to call 911. I was rushed to the hospital with a blood pressure of 237/170. Compared to my normal 125/80. I looked up to the ceiling of the ambulance and thought, am I gonna see Jesus tonight? Is my life on earth over?
"As a pastor, I visit people in the hospital. But now I am the patient! After they sent me home, my heart rate would stay higher. I believe the CPAP machine I have which I chose to not wear a full mask but nose pillows, was not getting oxygen into me and because my nose was stuffed up nor was I getting it out.
"So sleeping became a battle. Anxiety attacks were debilitating. Every time I had one, I felt like I was dying. Shortness of breath. Heart racing out of control.
"Yesterday I finally got to the ear nose and throat specialist to see what was going on with my nose. Needless the say, the doctor gave me the following options:
1. New facemask. Which I feared for years because I'm a claustrophobe. (fear of being confined)
2. Get outpatient surgery for a pacemaker like device to remind me the breathe at night.
3. Get part of my tongue cut out because apparently I have a Gene Simmons tongue. ha ha!
Or 4. Die in my sleep at a young age of 45.
"So I cried out to God for help. He answered.
"A dear friend 'just happened' to have a brand new mask that didn't fit him, but fit me perfectly! I'm happy to report that last night I got a solid 8 hours of sleep! I didn't wake up with the usual panic attack. I felt refreshed and today so far, my nerves are calmer!
"Now I look like Darth Vader!
"Here's the moral of the story. God's word never comes back void. Which means when He says something, He carries it out. I had all the help I needed. But I was scared out of my mind to overcome.
"I needed the power of the Holy Spirit to do it. Now if my nose becomes clogged, I can sleep with my mouth open and get the air I need. I have to thank that dear friend for potentially saving my life.
"I also have to thank the two angels that came to my door to check my blood pressure and heart rate every time I needed an old fashioned house call.
"Even showed me how to breathe into a paper bag!''
