The meetings will begin now at 7 p.m. instead of 7:30 p.m. at the courthouse in Salem.

SALEM --  For years it's been a constant -- Salem County freeholders meet at 7:30 p.m.

That all changes later this month when the starting time is officially moved up a half hour to 7 p.m.

"It has become increasingly difficult to accommodate the scheduling needs of both presenters and guests to the freeholder meetings," Freeholder Director Julie Acton said. "This change in time is an effort to increase the participation of freeholder public meetings."

The change in the meeting time was approved by resolution by the board Sept. 2.

Starting Sept. 16, the 7 p.m. meeting will be preceded by a workshop meeting, beginning at 6 p.m., that is open to the public at the Old Courthouse in Salem.

On Dec. 30 the board will holds it close-out meeting at 4 p.m.

In recent years the only changes in meeting time had been in the summer when the time was moved up to 4 p.m.

On Oct. 21, the freeholder meeting will be held at the Pennsville Township Municipal Building instead of the Old Courthouse in Salem.

That's part of the board's plan to make its meetings more accessible to the public by holding meetings outside of the county seat.
