Jacob Peterzak and Hannah Hill top scorers in air and smallbore rifle competition
The two-day event was held at United Sportsmen's Association of North America (USANA) in Elmer and would select the state champions in air rifle and smallbore rifle. Six events, including three that are the same ones shot in Olympic competition, would determine the winners.
Locally the Salem County Sharp Shooters 4-H Club fielded four competitors. Others came from as far as Morris and Hunterdon counties.
When the final scores were tallied Jacob Peterzak of Franklinville won the air rifle and smallbore titles. Jacob is a member to the Salem County Sharp Shooters. His double win has only happened one other time. Jacob excelled in the smallbore silhouettes winning it and had national level scores in 3-Position, standing, and Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) events.
Team mate Hannah Hill of Mannington Township, owned the top scores in four of six events and finished 2nd and 3rd. She won the 3-Position air rifle and smallbore, the CMP event, and Standing air rifle with national level scores.
When Peterzak and Hill were not competing in the Salem County Sharp Shooters they could be seen coaching and encouraging their team members.
Peterzak and Hill will both represent New Jersey on the Smallbore Rifle team to compete at the 4-H National Matches in Grand Island, Nebraska next June.
