The incident took place Friday at the Budget Inn after two people allegedly took the tips, police said.
CARNEYS POINT TWP. -- Two guests who were staying at a local motel have been banned after tips for the housekeeping staff went missing, police said.
Carneys Point police were called to the Budget Inn on U.S. Route 40 around 11 a.m. Friday to investigate a report of a theft, authorities said.
Officers were told that two motel guests had been seen "hovering" around a housekeeping cart and had allegedly stolen about $100 in tips that had been left for the cleaning staff.
The two unidentified people who the motel management accused of taking the money denied any connection with the theft, police said.
The motel management asked the police to escort the pair from the property and tell them to never return.
Tip left at motel was counterfeit, police say
No charges were filed in the case at the request of the motel management.
In another incident at a local motel on the same day, a 45-year-old Bridgeton man was charged with criminal mischief after allegedly breaking a wall-mounted lamp at the Friendship Motor Inn on the Pennsville-Auburn Road, police said.
Officers were called to the motel around 10:35 p.m. for the report of a disorderly person, authorities said.
Police said along with allegedly breaking the lamp, Brian Young was frightening other guests.
After he was taken to police headquarters and formally charged, Young was released pending a court appearance.
