A woman hanging from the bridge caused a traffic jam on the Delaware Memorial Bridge on Monday afternoon.
UPDATE: The situation was resolved at 5:55 p.m.
NEW CASTLE, Del. -- A woman hanging off the Delaware Memorial Bridge has caused traffic to slow to a crawl, according to a witness.
The woman was seen hanging off the bridge Monday afternoon over the Delaware River on the New Jersey-bound span of the bridge, said Rob Saulin, of Pennsville. Motorists stuck in traffic posted on Facebook about the delay and the woman threatening to jump.
According to Delaware River and Bay Authority spokesman Jim Salmon, two lanes are closed to traffic due to DRBA police activity. Salmon was unable to comment further on specifics leading to the closure.
The situation was resolved at 5:55 p.m. and all three lanes were opened, Salmon said.
The distance from the roadway to the river is 200 feet.
Last month, a woman was talked out of jumping off the bridge.
