SALEM -- On one of the hottest weekends of the summer, the Salem City Pool opened for the 2016 season.
Those who use the pool to get some relief from the heat couldn't have been happier on Saturday.
The complex on Walnut Street had been closed so renovations could be made (actually to all three pools at the complex) and then all necessary inspections be completed, officials said.
Part of the delay in getting the facility open were the spring rains.
Tuesday through Friday the pool is open from 10 a.m. to noon for free swims for Salem students and residents and then from 1 to 4:30 p.m. students can still swim free, but adults are charged $3.
On Saturday and Sunday the pool is open from 1 to 4:30 p.m. with students swimming free and adults paying $3.

Salem City Council is partnering with the Salem City School District in operating the pool.
School representatives are Josiah Hughes and William Allen. Salem City Council President Karen Roots is the representative from city council.
The pool is closed on Mondays for general maintenance.
The pool is open to all city residents.
It will remain open until the end of August.
