SALEM -- A man who was under the influence of drugs when he was involved in an accident last year that injured two has been sentenced to a year in jail.
Daniel Stuart, 37, of Pennsville rear-ended a vehicle on the evening of May 25, 2015 on the Pennsville-Auburn Road in Carneys Point that left a woman and child hurt, according to police reports from the time.
Officials said at the time of the crash Stuart was under the influence of drugs.
Stuart appeared before Superior Court Judge Benjamin Telsey on Friday.
"This was an accident and I'm sorry," Stuart told the court.
He was sentenced to 364 days in the Salem County Correctional Facility on each of two counts of assault by auto. Those sentences will be served concurrently.

A violation of probation sentence will also be served concurrently with the assault by auto sentences.
Stuart's attorney, Joseph Neal, said Stuart had been approved for home detention so that he may remain working and pay restitution.
A restitution hearing was to be scheduled for later this month.
After his arrest last year, he was charged with assault by auto, assault by auto while under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, driving with a suspended license and causing bodily injury to another.
Stuart also was charged with possession of heroin, failure to deliver the controlled dangerous substance to the nearest law enforcement officer and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, according to police.
A 61-year-old woman and the child hurt in the accident were both taken to Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware, for treatment of their injuries after the accident.
