Ann Marie Weatherspoon allegedly told police her ex-boyfriend was in a house assaulting another woman.
SALEM -- A Salem County woman who authorities say repeatedly called 911 as a way to harass her former boyfriend has been indicted in the case, according to court records.
Ann Marie L. Weatherspoon, 29, of Carneys Point is accused of calling 911 and saying that her ex was assaulting another woman in his home.
Weatherspoon even showed up outside the unidentified man's Salem City house after making the calls claiming to be a concerned neighbor, authorities said.
A Salem County grand jury recently indicted Weatherspoon on 26 counts in the case -- 10 counts of creating a false public alarm, 15 counts of false incrimination and one count of stalking, according to court records.
All are fourth-degree charges.
Weatherspoon allegedly made the phony 911 calls from Dec. 10 through Jan. 14 of this year, according to court records.
Weatherspoon is accused of giving false information in each incident to various Salem City Police Department officers, including Chief of Police John A. Pelura III.
Pelura said Weatherspoon's alleged actions were all an attempt to get revenge on her boyfriend.
The chief was angered by what he called a waste of manpower caused by the false calls.
"While police are tied up trying to investigate what is reported to be serious crimes, other residents in need have to wait because a person is trying to harass her ex. We will not tolerate this type of perilous, juvenile behavior," Pelura said at the time of Weatherspoon's arrest.
'Machete-like' object used in Salem Co. attacks
She was taken in custody on Feb. 10 when she was at the Salem City Police Department headquarters and officers there recognized her voice as the one on the false 911 calls.
When told she was under arrest, authorities said she had to be taken to The Memorial Hospital of Salem County, Mannington Township, after complaining of feeling ill.
Weatherspoon was promptly cleared by the hospital and taken to the nearby Salem County Correctional Facility.
All of the claims allegedly made by Weatherspoon against the ex-boyfriend were false, authorities said.
If she is found guilty, Weatherspoon could face up to 18 months in prison on each charge.
She is currently in the county jail on charges apparently unrelated to the alleged stalking incident.
