A 16 and 19 year old faces charges including resisting arrest, underage alcohol possession.
SALEM -- Two teenagers face a slew of charges after an attempted motor vehicle stop led to a pursuit and motor vehicle crash into a South Jersey building, police say.
New Jersey State Police stopped a white Nissan Altima on Feb. 27 at 1:12 a.m. for driving without headlights on Market Street in Salem City.
As troopers approached the vehicle, the driver allegedly accelerated and drove off, making a right turn on Broadway.
Police returned to their patrol car and chased the driver in a pursuit.
The vehicle was seen several blocks ahead traveling at an undisclosed high rate of speed.
The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Denzel Massengill, then drove to Front Street, attempted to make a right turn and lost control, crashing into Dennis Lawson International building, police said.
After smashing into the building, the vehicle came to rest about 100 feet inside.
As troopers walked into the building, they located a 16-year-old female passenger from Salem, standing next to the door of the vehicle.
Police found an open bottle of liquor, a knife and Alprazolam inside the car, and arrested the teenager, who was charged with hindering apprehension, underage possession of alcohol and possession of controlled dangerous substance.

With assistance from Salem City Police, state troopers and the New Jersey State Police K-9 Unit searched for the driver of the vehicle who was not located at this time.
The following day, police located the Nissan, which was reported stolen.
State troopers then identified the driver as Massengill, 19, of Newark, Del., who was arrested by the Delaware River Port Authority Police earlier that day for another stolen vehicle.
Police tracked Massengill down at the Salem County Correctional Facility where he was being held for prior incidents.
Massengill was charged with eluding, receiving stolen property, possession of an unlawful weapon, obstruction and resisting arrest.
Massengill was also charged with criminal mischief, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and underage possession of alcohol.
An additional $50,000 bail was set for Massengill, who is still being held at the Salem County Correctional Facility. Brittany Wehner may be reached at bwehner@njadvancemedia.com. Follow her on Twitter @brittanymwehner. Find the South Jersey Times on Facebook.
