Three candidates ask for support from voters on Nov. 3.
To the Editor:
In Deptford Township's Nov. 3 school board election, are you looking for board members who just meet the minimum requirements, or do our children deserve more? Do you believe your children deserve advocates and champions, or members who want to be there to further a political agenda?
Do you believe a school board member should put our children and education first or succumb to outside influences with ulterior motives?
The best possible school board members offer:
-- Proven leadership, with fiscally responsible decisions based solely on what is best for the students, parents, staff and taxpayers.
-- A focus on building a bright future through education, infrastructure and stability. Additionally, it is important to focus on the number of assessments that our students are taking.
-- A commitment to the time and energy required each week for meetings, phone calls, conversations, visits to schools and professional development seminars.
-- Experience and knowledge about district policies, guidelines, needs, challenges and strengths.
Candidates who spend more money do not equal candidates with better ideas, more experience or greater commitment to the education of our children. Keep politics out of our schools.
As candidates, we encourage every registered voter to cast a ballot. Turnout is expected to be low, but this is one of the best opportunities parents have to make a difference in their children's education. Your vote is crucial. None of us can succeed without you.
Rachel Green
Stacy Gray
Stacy Carr
Editor's note: The writers are all candidates for full terms on the Deptford Township Board of Education; only Gray is an incumbent.
