PENNSVILLE TWP. -- Cub Scouts from around Salem County met Friday evening in Pennsville for the annual Pinewood Derby Finals.

This marked the 44th year for the event.

The Scouts, along with their parents and families, built their own race cars from blocks of pine wood from kits supplied by Boy Scouts of America supply outlets.

Friday night was the moment of truth as the racers gathered at the Queen of Apostles Church Hall on South Broadway.

Cub Scouts, from all over Salem County, who won at their local Cub Pack races, held throughout the month of January, squared off to see who had the fastest race cars in the county

Registered to compete on Friday night were Cub Scouts representing the following Packs: Pack 5 of Quinton, Pack 60 of Daretown, Packs 215 and 230 of Pennsville and Pack 238 of Woodstown.

Trophies provided by The Printers of Salem County were presented for first, second and third place racers.

All the Scouts who competed received a Certificate of Participation.
