SALEM -- A woman driving a pickup truck sideswiped a car and took down a utility pole before crashing into a house Wednesday, police say.

The accident took around 3 p.m. on Smith Street, according to Salem City Chief of Police John A Pelura III.

The driver, who was headed east on Smith Street sideswiped a car and then traveled across the road to the other side before hitting the pole and then the house.

When the pole came down, it brought down wires with it and caused minor damage to a nearby house.

Power was out in the area for a time because of the accident.

Pelura said the driver of the pickup truck was a 25-year-old woman from Pilesgrove Township.

The woman was taken to The Memorial Hospital of Salem County, Mannington Township, to be treated for injuries sustained in the crash.

No other people were hurt, Pelura said.

Traffic and criminal charges are pending against the driver, Pelura said.

Responding to the accident along with the Salem Police Department were Liberty and Washington fire companies from Salem City, the Fenwick Ambulance and paramedics.
