So winter is finally here. Some of those flowering trees and shrubs that got fooled in thinking spring was here appear to have been zapped a little. One of the sights we have not seen this year was ice until early last week when the temps dipped into the 20s and teens. Then it was just the very thinnest coating on some waterways.

It's been so warm over the past weeks that before the cold set in last week we actually saw some people had mowed their lawns. The wonderful smell of cut grass in January. How many years can you say you've experienced that?

Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno performed some of the swearing-in duties during the Salem County Board of Chosen Freeholders' reorganization meeting on Wednesday night at the Old Courthouse. She said this probably marked the 15th time she has visited Salem County since she has been in office.

Anyone who was at that freeholder reorganization meeting will never forget the incredible voice of soloist Kim Wozunk.

The 700-plus wreaths placed on the graves at Finn's Point National Cemetery in Pennsville during the Wreaths Across America event on Dec. 12 will remain until Jan. 20. If you haven't seen them decorating the graves, make a visit to the cemetery before they are collected.
