QUINTON TWP. -- New Jersey State Police responded to a residence in Quinton Township after a man was found banging on the door of a home, authorities said.

The incident occurred Dec. 28 when a 32-year-old Vineland man was found standing on the back deck of the Sickler Street residence, police reported.

Several neighbors had approached the Vineland man and were with him when police arrived.

A resident also reported to police that two kids were home when the man was banging on the door, who fled the house and got help from a neighbor.

It is unclear at this time if parents were home during the incident.

Further investigation revealed that members of the Salem County Sheriff's Department originally found the man in the area of Quinton Township School and dropped him off at Bud's Market.

The man told police he was going to call for a ride and somehow ended up at the residence on Sickler Street, according to authorities.

After speaking with the Vineland man, police deemed him mentally unstable and he was taken to The Memorial Hospital of Salem County for evaluation, authorities said.

Further information was not available.
