The Scoop: Winter's finally here?; Help the Grange; election's not over?; keep shopping local

The Scoop offers tidbits of news from around the county including a few surprises, too.

Back to reality? Looks that way when it comes to the weather. Forecasters are saying expect highs in the 40s and lows in the 20s over the next few days. Long-range forecasts don't seem to show any more mild spells for a while.

Our concern is will it really get bitter cold this month and next and harm so many of the plants that have been fooled into thinking it's spring.

Want to meet some real sports heroes? If you had been at Tuesday night's induction ceremony at the Salem County Sports Hall of Fame at Salem Community College you could have. The seven inductees are Ashley Minch, Mike Messick, George Hill, George Pfeffer, Dave Suiter, Kelly Kline and Donna Stemberger. Special teams from our high schools in the past and state champs from 2015 were honored. The Hall of Fame's 15th induction ceremony proved to be another great night.

Municipal reorganization meetings kick off today in Salem County.

The Salem County Board of Chosen freeholders are set to reorganize Wednesday, Jan. 6, 5:45 p.m. at the Old Courthouse in downtown Salem.

The battle over who will occupy one of the seats on the freeholder board isn't over.  A court hearing is set for Monday morning.

Christmas might be over, but keep in mind how important it is to continue to shop locally and support small businesses in Salem County.
